Poppy peony "Pavot noir" - Papaver somniferum var. paeoniflorum.
This variety will bring a touch of mystery to your flower garden!
Peony-shaped varieties are considered the most valuable among annual poppies. Their enormous, super-double flowers look especially impressive when grown as pure varieties rather than in a mixture. This graceful and profusely blooming plant reaches a height of 60-80 cm. Its inflorescences form large, double caps with jagged inner petals, 11-12 cm in diameter.
Agrotechnics.
Poppies require little care. They are sun-loving, cold-hardy, and undemanding in terms of soil. Seeds are sown outdoors in late April to early May. Seedlings emerge in 7-12 days and are thinned out, leaving 25-20 cm between plants. They do not transplant well. Seeds can be sown at intervals of up to two weeks, ensuring continued flowering throughout the summer. Removing faded flowers can prolong flowering. They respond well to mineral and organic fertilizers. This gives the leaves a rich, dark green color, larger flowers, and more vibrant colors.

Opium poppy - Papaver somniferum.
It grows wild in the Mediterranean. The plant is an annual, herbaceous. The stems are weakly branched, erect, glaucous-green with a waxy coating, up to 100 cm tall. The lower leaves are narrowly or broadly oblong; the stem leaves are elliptical, the upper ones are obovate, triangular, glaucous-green, often curly. The flowers are single on long peduncles, simple or double, 9-10 cm in diameter, white, pink, red, purple, lilac, lilac, sometimes with white or dark spots at the base of the petals. The flowers bloom early in the morning, the petals fall by evening. It blooms in June-July for 25-30 days. The fruit is a spherical capsule. In cultivation since 1597.
The seeds of this poppy are used in the baking industry, sprinkled on buns, cookies, and cakes. They are also used to extract oil. The narcotic drugs opium and morphine are obtained from the seed pods of this poppy. Therefore, growing this poppy is now prohibited in many areas. As an ornamental plant, the varieties of this species with large, double, very beautiful flowers ranging from 6 to 15 cm in diameter are mainly used. There are varieties with double flowers and dissected petals (var. laciniata) and with entire petals (var. paeoniflorum), whose flowers resemble peonies. When sown in early spring outdoors, the opium poppy blooms in 1.5-2 months. Seeds can be sown at intervals of up to every two weeks, in which case flowering will last all summer.
Poppies typically bloom for a short time, but when their petals open, they become the garden's undisputed masters: all eyes are drawn to them, they warm and fill the garden with their double flowers, and it's simply impossible to ignore this flowering carpet.
